Alena Hvozdzeva studied Political Science at the Otto-Suhr-Institute of Freie Universität Berlin with focus on International Relations, Media and Eastern Europe. She worked intensively on questions of fragile statehood and legitimacy of political regimes. Studies in Germany were preceded by the study of German philology and pedagogical sciences at Minsk State Linguistic University (Belarus). Her present research in the Doctoral College is on the influence of non-democratic forms of government on the political culture of Lithuania and Latvia.
