Short Description of the Doctoral College
The Doctoral College (DC) European Historical Dictatorship and Transformation Research is a common project of the Departments of Contemporary History, Political Science, East European History, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of the University of Vienna. Twelve doctoral fellows from various disciplines do research on the 20th century authoritarian regimes of Bulgaria, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Hungary, and the Soviet Union. Different aspects of these regimes are being examined from a comparative perspective: preconditions, structure, continuities, and transformation into other governing systems. The doctoral fellows are supervised by established scientists of the University of Vienna. Besides writing their dissertations, the doctoral fellows will realise common publications, exhibitions, and international conferences on European dictatorship research.
